Increase your curb appeal this Summer
Increase your curb appeal this summer
If you are thinking of selling your house this summer or it has already been on the market for some time, instead of lowering the price, consider doing some upgrades to spice up your curb appeal.
It seems simple, but merely going over the outside of your home and replacing door knobs, door knockers or any other hardware you have on the outside of your house can really add value. If your door is outdated, that can be replaced as well. A simple door replacement can change the look of your home’s entrance.
Symmetry of entrance
Take a look at your entry way. Is there a way you can spruce it up, just by adding a few planters and a simple door decoration. Maybe you can install a few decorative light fixtures on each side of the door to draw attention to it. Make sure they match those new planters !
Makeover your mailbox
If you have a mailbox, make sure it matches your home’s style. The colour scheme, the trimmings, etc. If your mailbox is at the end of your driveway, in one day, you can create a beautiful planter around it to match any planters you have around your house. This way it is functional and beautiful.
Update or add planter beds
If you don’t already have a landscape plan for your home, now is the time to think about creating one with new planters or updating your existing ones. Anything that seems outdated needs to go and be replaced. It can be as simple as creating a stone wall for your planters or replacing broken pieces of your old one. Your planters should be well maintained over the course of the summer. Consider speaking with a garden specialist while choosing which plants will make the cut. They can help you choose an array of plants that will bloom at different parts of the season so your planters are gorgeous all summer long!
Replace gutters or downspouts
If your gutters are rusted or damaged, this will affect their functionality and the esthetic nature of your home. Exit Realty Matrix always recommends you do a pre-list inspection. While you have the inspector there, ask them to look at those gutters and downspouts. They can give you their opinion on what needs to be replaced.
You don’t want to redo your whole driveway, but you can still dress it up. Kill any weeds that are growing out of cracks, repair the cracks and consider staining it. This will give it a finished, new look. If you have been parking on your grass, you can either stop and fix the lawn or add brickwork next to it. Some cities have by-laws associated with this kind of work, so make sure you ask your Realtor or call the city before you start that project.
If you are unsure as to which projects should be your top priority, speak to your Ottawa Realtor. They will tell you where you should start the beautification of your home whether it is inside or outside. We wish you the best of luck upping your curb appeal.
