Tips for your Canada Day celebrations

Tips for Your Canada Day Celebration

It’s finally here, the day you get to have off in celebration of our glorious nation. Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee! We also often get sunburnt, eaten alive by mosquitoes and drink large amounts of alcohol for thee as well. EXIT Realty Matrix wants you to have a safe Canada Day, so here are a few tips to prepare for the festivities.

Pack lots of water

Whether or not you’re raising a glass of Canadian liquid gold in honour of the celebrations tomorrow, you should try to stay as hydrated as possible. Remember to pack lots of water for yourself, your children and any pets you may be taking with you. July tends towards high temperatures and sunny days. The last thing you want is to hit a wall in the afternoon and get a dehydration headache.

Slather on the sunscreen

Make sure you purchase some protection against the sun before the big day when all the stores will be closed. Take out those hats, sunglasses and if you’re especially sensitive to the sun, you can even get some umbrellas. If your activities are outdoors and involve water, make sure to get some sunscreen with a waterproof rating. You also want to look for one that has both UVA and UVB protection.

Pack a mini first aid kit

Obviously you don’t need to pack an extensive kit to rival what you’d find in an ambulance, but make sure you have the basics. A lot of people get hurt on holidays and pharmacies are closed.

We recommend you pack:

-          band-aids

-          gauze

-          disinfectant cream, like polysporin

-          cream for sun burns

-          after bite

-          an anti-histamine

-          hydrogen peroxide/rubbing alcohol

-          Tylenol

-          Hydration salts

-          Any medications you may have had prescribed by a doctor for you

Pet Safety

If you have pets, whether or not they are coming with you, make sure they are safely secured during fireworks. More people lose their pets on Canada Day than any other day of the year. The loud noises startle them and they can run away, sometimes into traffic. We want everyone to come out of Canada Day safe, healthy and happy, including the furrier members of your family.

We’d also like to take the opportunity to remind you that it is dangerous to drink and drive. So please, if you’ve had alcohol, don’t get behind the wheel.

That’s it for us folks! From everyone here at EXIT Realty Matrix – Tessier Team, we hope you have a lovely Canada Day!
